A call for petition-signers, via the e-newsletter from the Council for a Livable World:
January 13, 2009
Dear Friend,
For decades, many people believed the "world free of nuclear weapons" that we, you, and others called for was not possible. They said it was impractical, too left-wing, dangerous, or even naïve.
But today, we stand one week away from the Inauguration of a President who has declared:
This is the moment when we must renew the goal of a world without nuclear weapons.
Join our movement now. Obama has made his declaration. Make yours, too.
This is an important moment to renew the call for the elimination of nuclear weapons.
- Russia and the United States combined possess more than 16,000 nuclear warheads – enough to destroy the world more than 100 times over.
- The United States has not yet ratified the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty that would end all explosive nuclear bomb testing.
- New countries are starting their own nuclear programs.
The time could not be more important to call for a world free of nuclear weapons. We are already working to move the campaign forward, but we can't do it without your support.
Join us and our coalition partners with the Campaign for a Nuclear Weapons Free World in our call to eliminate nuclear weapons. Click here to sign our petition!
Council for a Livable World was founded more than forty years ago with the goal of promoting serious arms control policies that would lead to the eventual elimination of nuclear weapons.
Our founder Leo Szilard would be proud to hear the chorus of voices calling today for a world free of these weapons – voices that range from Council members across the country, to former secretaries of state and members of Congress, to President-elect Barack Obama.
Raise your voice today by signing our petition and joining the call for a more livable world.
Sincerely,
John Isaacs and Guy Stevens
